This month’s Future Ready Spotlight shines on the Sigourney Community School District. The district, in collaboration with community members and a variety of stakeholders, is developing a “Portrait of a Sigourney CSD Graduate.” The process provides strategic direction for the district and community to partner in redesigning the educational experience for ALL Sigourney CSD students.
According to Battelle for Kids, “Every school system is unique, but they are connected by a shared aspiration: that all students have an educational experience that prepares them to become lifelong learners and contributors. Now more than ever, that experience must not only provide for the acquisition of rigorous academic content, but must also be more intentional about fostering critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and other 21st-century skills and habits of mind that our students need to navigate and thrive in this complex, rapidly changing world.” (Battelle for Kids)
Under the leadership of Superintendent Kevin Hatfield, the Sigourney schools and community design team have engaged in the first three phases of the process, with plans to have a completed portrait by early spring. Andrea Stewart (The Center) is facilitating the work, with support from GPAEA’s Future Ready Team.
